Cold room panels — sandwich-panel kit assembled on site

A PIR sandwich-panel kit with cam-lock joining rails, compression seals and a suspended ceiling. Dimensions to the centimetre. Assembled in 1-2 days by two people. The ideal solution for fitting a cold room into an existing building or working around site constraints.

The kit is the option to pick when a container will not fit: an upper floor, a vaulted cellar, a narrow access, an architectural or heritage constraint. You receive the panels flat on a pallet, assemble the shell in a few hours, and the split unit (R290 pre-charged up to 30 m³ usable) connects to the wall.

Assembly and logistics

Panels delivered flat on a pallet: door, ceiling, floor (optional), side walls and back. Joined by cam-lock profiles (an eccentric system built into the panels) tightened with an Allen key — no visible fixings, no thermal bridge. Sealed by a double EPDM compression gasket. With two trained people, a 10 m³ kit goes up in half a day; a 20 m³ in a full day. Our assembly manual is step-by-step and illustrated.

When to choose a kit over a container

Four typical cases. First: the room goes inside an existing space (a floor, basement or mezzanine). Second: unusual dimensions (very tall, very narrow, L-shaped). Third: a need for easy resale without a crane (dismountable kit). Fourth: difficult transport (no lorry access). If none of these apply, a container is faster and performs better on insulation for a similar price.

Thermal performance: kit vs container

PIR panels 100 mm for chiller, 120 mm for freezer — the same performance as our containers. The difference is elsewhere: on a container the factory seal is pressure-tested in air; on a kit, airtightness depends on the care taken during assembly. A well-built kit is 95% as airtight as a container, a poorly built one only 70%. Power consumption varies accordingly. Follow the manual and use the specified torque settings.

Questions fréquentes

Can I assemble a cold room kit myself without an engineer?

Assembling the shell (panels): yes, with two people and the manual. Connecting a 230 V monobloc unit electrically: yes, for a qualified electrician. Vacuum pull-down and gas charging of an empty split unit: no — that is reserved for certified F-Gas (Cat. I) engineers. That is why we supply split units pre-charged with R290 by default; an engineer is only needed for configurations above 30 m³ or with ATEX constraints.

Is the kit dismountable and relocatable?

Yes — that is the other advantage of a kit. The cam-locks release, the panels stack flat on a pallet, the unit disconnects. Allow 2-3 times longer to dismantle than the original build (the seals are harder to remove cleanly). Plan to replace the EPDM seals at each reassembly (around €80 of seals for a 10 m³).

What slab or base does a kit need?

A kit needs no concrete slab if you order the insulated-floor option. A flat surface (slab, tiles, PVC flooring) level to within ± 5 mm across the diagonal is sufficient. Without the insulated floor, lay floor insulation on site (PIR panels + screed) before erecting the walls — otherwise you lose 15-20% of efficiency through the base.

Where do you deliver cold room panel kits, and how much do they cost?

We deliver to France, Germany, Italy and Spain as a palletised shipment. Prices run from around €4,200 + VAT to €18,500 + VAT ex VAT depending on volume, panel thickness and the refrigeration unit. Each kit carries a 2-year transferable warranty backed by CGGK, on a 50% deposit at order.
