Cold rooms for agriculture and market gardening

Post-harvest storage of fruit and vegetables, holding milk before collection, storing eggs, and adding value to produce processed on the farm. Sized around your real crop mix rather than a standard box, and supplied pre-charged with natural R290 refrigerant.

Agriculture is a core market for us: eligibility for EU rural development funding, a high average order value on the larger volumes, a long equipment life, and customers who stay loyal for 15 to 20 years once they are fitted out.

Regulations

EU rural development funding (EAFRD)

Across the EU, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) co-finances post-harvest conservation equipment through national and regional programmes. Grant rates typically run from 20 % to 40 % of the net cost depending on your profile (young farmer, diversified market gardening, organic production, and so on). Most schemes require a quotation, an investment plan and a project description, and the application is usually built before purchase. Check the exact terms with the paying agency or rural development authority in your country.

Key features

What your trade needs

Grant-ready quotation

Our quotation carries the items most rural development files need: a technical description, the net price line by line, and CE conformity sheets. You can assemble your funding application in a couple of hours with your farm advisor.

Humidity tuned to the crop

Apples: 0 °C / 90 % RH. Carrots: +1 °C / 95 % RH. Salads: +1 °C / 95 % RH. Tomatoes: +12 °C / 85 % RH. The controller can run two separate set-point zones via an internal partition.

Stands alone in the open

No closed building required: our rooms run outdoors, ideally under a canopy to lower running costs. Ideal for holdings without a large dedicated shed.

Post-harvest storage by crop

Apples: long storage of 6–9 months at 0 °C / 90 % RH (keeping varieties such as Granny Smith). Pears: 5–7 months at −0.5 / 0 °C. Potatoes: 6 months at +4 °C / 85 % RH (storage varieties). Carrots: 4–6 months at 0 °C / 95 % RH. Cabbages: 3–5 months at 0 °C / 95 % RH. Strawberries and raspberries: 7–14 days at 0 °C / 90 % RH (short cycle, fast rotation).

A containerised room versus a built-in farm cold store

Lead time: 8–12 weeks instead of 6–12 months for a masonry room. Mobility: it can be relocated if you move or expand the holding. Warranty: two years, transferable, versus no cover on a room you build yourself. F-Gas compliance: zero fluorinated gas (R290 GWP = 3), a helpful argument for eco-investment grants. Total cost of ownership: amortised over 10–15 years, more favourable than a built room over the same period.

Plan the post-harvest cold chain from the start

The cold room sits at the end of the chain: harvest, any washing or grading, packing into crates or bins, then cold storage. To work well it should be close to the harvest point (minimise the walk from field to cold), shaded in the afternoon, and fed by a reliable three-phase supply. Our quotation builds these site constraints into the configuration: we size the refrigeration unit around the typical harvest temperature of your crop, not just the final storage set-point.

Suitable configurations

Compact format · 10 m³

10m3 Cold Room — Compact, Movable R290 Unit

The 10 m³ (roughly 350 cu ft) is our entry point: the most compact small cold room that still works as a genuine professional unit. It arrives pre-charged with R290, runs on a standard 230 V single-phase supply, and can be sited almost anywhere without a heavy concrete slab. A best-seller for game-hunting groups, small butchers, florists and restaurants on temporary premises.

Core of the range · 20 m³

20m3 Cold Room — The R290 Core of the Range

The 20 m³ (roughly 700 cu ft) is our best-seller. It has the capacity for a wholesale butcher, an active hunting syndicate, a mid-sized restaurant or a market garden handling post-harvest stock. Pre-charged with R290, 100 mm PIR insulation, 400 V three-phase. This is the format where the cost per m³ is at its best.

R290 pre-charge limit · 30 m³

30m3 Cold Room — The Limit of R290 Pre-Charge

30 m³ (roughly 1,060 cu ft) is the boundary of our pre-charged R290 catalogue. It is the format for farms handling post-harvest stock, caterers with large seasonal volumes, wholesale butchers and shared hunting estates. Above this point we switch to empty delivery, with the unit charged on site by a certified F-Gas engineer.

Industrial reefer · 40 m³

40m3 Cold Room — Industrial Reefer, Delivered Empty

40 m³ of usable space (roughly 1,410 cu ft) on an ISO 40-foot frame. Aimed at food manufacturers, large producers and logistics platforms. Always delivered empty, then charged on site by a certified, Category I F-Gas engineer (R290 or R744, depending on the specification).

Questions fréquentes

What funding can I claim for an agricultural cold room?

It varies by country, region and profile. Common rural development measures cover post-harvest conservation equipment at 20–40 % of the net cost, often with higher rates for young farmers and additional support for organic production. Caps and stacking rules depend on the scheme. Confirm the detail with your national paying agency or farm advisor before you commit.

Is your quotation accepted for grant applications?

Yes. Our net-price quotation states the exporting entity (CGGK), the product references, the CE sheet and equipment conformity — the items most investment files ask for. No rewriting needed; it is designed for this.

How long does it take to receive the grant?

Most schemes require the application to be lodged before purchase (you usually need an acknowledgement of receipt before signing with a deposit). Processing typically takes 2–6 months, and payment follows delivery and proof of payment, often within a further six months. Plan to fund the full net amount plus VAT up front and to wait around a year to recover the 20–40 % grant.
