Above 30 m³ in R290, the refrigerant charge exceeds the ATEX limits in an enclosed space. For industrial volumes we deliver the body empty and our network of certified F-Gas (Cat. I) engineers charges it on site — R290 or R744 (CO₂) to spec.

Industrial volumes serve food processing (meat, cheese, fruit and veg), cold-chain logistics (cross-dock platforms) and large producers (cooperative cellars, wholesalers). Configurations from 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150 to 200 m³. Two-zone and three-zone layouts are possible with insulated partitions.

Why empty delivery is mandatory

ATEX regulation 2014/34/EU classes R290 (propane) as a potential explosive atmosphere. In an enclosed, unventilated space, the indicative limit is around 5 kg of refrigerant charge, which corresponds roughly to a chiller cold room of ≤ 30 m³. Above that, two compliant routes exist: forced ventilation of the room (heavy to install), or empty delivery plus on-site charging by a certified F-Gas (Cat. I) engineer using a vacuum pull-down and controlled-charge procedure. We chose the second route to stay versatile.

R290 or R744 (CO₂) for large volumes

R290 stays relevant up to around 60 m³ chiller or 40 m³ freezer (the ATEX limit varies with ventilation). Above that, transcritical R744 (CO₂) takes over — GWP = 1, non-flammable, but high pressure (above 70 bar on the HP side) requiring a dedicated unit. Our catalogue covers both. For a large-capacity industrial freezer, R744 is usually the best technical option.

Certified F-Gas engineer network — sourcing partners

We work with a network of certified F-Gas (Cat. I) engineers covering all of France in Phase 1, Italy and Spain in Phase 2, Germany in Phase 3. The charging quote is separate (full transparency): between €1,200 and €3,500 + VAT depending on size and complexity. You pay the engineer directly, not through us — we take no margin on this step so we stay neutral in our recommendation.

Questions fréquentes

At what point should I switch to a built room?

Empirically, containerised stays competitive up to 200 m³. Above that, the price gap with a built sandwich-panel room (assembled on site) inverts, and the built room offers better architectural integration. For 250 m³ and above, talk to us — we can either join several partitioned containers or steer you to a partner installer of built rooms.

Is the partner engineer guaranteed?

Our partners are selected on their Cat. I certification, their experience with natural refrigerants (both R290 and R744 — not every engineer is used to transcritical CO₂), and their responsiveness (quote within 48 h). The service is invoiced and guaranteed directly by them. CGGK warrants the equipment for 2 years transferable; the engineer warrants their intervention (typically 1 year on labour, 2 years on added components).

Can a 100 m³ industrial room fit a containerised format?

Yes. Several options: a 40ft HC (≈ 65 m³) plus a 20ft (≈ 28 m³) joined by an insulated internal door. Or two 40ft HC joined (≈ 130 m³). Or a sandwich-panel assembly on a slab for a true single-piece 100 m³ room — at which point you leave the ISO format but keep the modular spirit. We assess it case by case to your site.

Where do you deliver cold storage warehouse units?

We deliver to France, Germany, Italy and Spain, by crane lorry (HIAB), in 8-12 weeks from the factory. Units arrive on a 50% deposit at order with the balance on delivery, and a 2-year transferable warranty backed by CGGK. The body is delivered empty; the F-Gas engineer charges it on site.
